What Artwork File Format Is Best for Printing Custom Flags?
The best flag printing artwork is a correctly prepared file for the actual product template. A vector logo or print-ready PDF is often a useful starting point, but the filename extension alone does not prove quality. A PDF can still contain a low-resolution screenshot, missing fonts or the wrong dimensions. Ask for the production team’s requirements, then supply a clear master and approval reference.

Distinguish vector from raster content
Vector paths can be scaled without relying on a fixed grid of image pixels. Photographs and screenshots are raster images and need enough detail at the final placed size. Renaming a JPEG as a PDF does not recreate a vector logo. If the only available source is small or damaged, ask whether redrawing is required and approve the reconstructed identity before it enters production.
Use the right product outline
Obtain the template for the exact flag size and hardware model, especially for shaped displays. Keep essential graphics inside the designated safe area and account for sleeves, seams and headers. Bleed extends artwork beyond a cut boundary; it does not replace the clear space needed around important content. Use the supplier’s allowances rather than applying an arbitrary value taken from a paper-printing job.
Handle fonts and linked images
Make sure all required text and images are included in the supplied package or correctly embedded in the final PDF. The production team may request outlined lettering for a logo or another specific method of preserving type appearance. Retain an editable master separately. After export, reopen the PDF and check line breaks, symbols, language characters, image quality and the actual page dimensions.
State colour and orientation expectations
Include approved brand references and identify any critical colour match. Ask which colour profile or file preparation method suits the production workflow rather than converting repeatedly without guidance. Label the hoist side and specify whether the reverse may be mirrored. Send front-and-back layout instructions when independently readable faces are required, making directional graphics and any arrows particularly clear.
Create one approval package
Use meaningful file names including product SKU, artwork version and finished size. Keep the proof separate from unapproved drafts and confirm which version is authorised. Send Orient Uniforms FZE the files with quantity, location and desired date. A digital proof checks placement; a physical sample can add evidence of cloth, colour and finishing. Agree these approval steps before assuming a file is ready for the full order.
Questions & answers
Is a PNG always unsuitable?
Not necessarily. A sufficiently detailed raster image may be usable, but a transparent PNG is not automatically a scalable vector logo.
Should I mirror the artwork myself?
Supply normal-reading artwork unless the production team requests a mirrored file. Confirm the finished front and reverse on the proof.
